Covid-19 | Federal & State Governments Stimulus Measures bannerAugust 2021

Government Stimulus Measure:

Additional Business Support Grant

What is the stimulus/relief?

The Commonwealth and State Government are offering a further $3,000 grant to eligible small and medium businesses that employ South Australians, who have been highly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. A $1,000 grant is available to non-employing businesses.

A further grant of $1,000 will be available for eligible businesses (both employing and non-employing) with a commercial premise in the Adelaide CBD.

A Major Events Support Grant of up to $25,000 is available for the operators of major one-off events impacted by the July lockdown and subsequent trading restrictions.

What is the aim of the initiative?

This measure is designed to support South Australian businesses through the coronavirus pandemic and support the operation of their business.

Who is eligible?

There is no minimum turnover test for this additional grant, unlike the initial grant that became available in July 2021, however a business must be registered for GST.

To be eligible for the one-off $3,000 emergency cash grant, a business must, as at 12:01am Wednesday 28 July 2021:

  • Employ people in South Australia.
  • Be registered for GST
  • Have an Australia-wide payroll of less than $10 million in 2019-20
  • Have a valid and active Australian Business Number (ABN)
  • Experienced at least a 30 per cent reduction in turnover in the two weeks from Wednesday 28 July 2021 to 10 August 2021compared to average fortnightly turnover in the June quarter 2021 (prior to restricted trading conditions)
  • Business must operate in an eligible industry sector identified in the list of eligible ANZSIC classes (see next page) -
    https://www.treasury.sa.gov.au/Growing-South-Australia/COVID-19/eligible-anzsic-classes

To be eligible for the one-off $1,000 emergency cash grant, a non-employing business must meet the criteria listed above excluding the requirement to employ people. Note only one claim can be made for all non-employing businesses controlled by the same individual, company, partnership, or trustee. Individuals will not be eligible if they are receiving the COVID-19 Disaster Payment.

Businesses will be required to declare that they have experienced a loss or reduction in turnover due to restricted trading conditions. Supporting information does not need to be filed with application, however must be retained for 12 months for compliance/audit purposes.

The grant will need to be recognised as taxable income in the year received.

How do I get it?

Eligible business will need to apply for the grant. Applications are expected to open on 13 August 2021. Applications for the Business Support Grant must be submitted by 11:59pm, 17 October 2021.
